At 28, there are times when Kyle Gibson’s lower back and hips would tighten up and interfere with his games. Meanwhile, fellow Minnesota Twins pitcher Trevor May, 26 was having issues with his back and hips as well – leaving him unavailable for days at a time.

Both had been to chiropractors in the past, but never on a regular basis. Gibson stopped because of fear that chiropractic might make his back worse, May, because he didn’t see immediate results from his sporadic sessions.

A conversation with May early in spring training made Gibson more open to chiropractic manipulation. It so happens that two weeks before spring training, May went back to his chiropractor after he felt his back and hip issues coming back. The chiropractor explained to May what exactly was happening and what was needed to get it back to normal. May learned that baseball players get skeletally out of line because they perform motions much harder on one side than on the other, and that a chiropractor can help re-align the spine to prevent injury. “Letting those muscles inflate and then heal and rebuild them back to where they’re supposed to be – that’s what we’re doing,” May said about his chiropractic sessions.

Gibson started going twice a week to his chiropractor and now feels that his issues are under control. “It has made a big difference in my hips and just everything,” he said.
