MIDDLETOWN, NY – Dr. Stephen Brune from the chiropractic center on Dolson Avenue recently returned from a trip to Ethiopia with 30 other physicians from around the country. These physicians travel twice a year to far away places where no medical care is available to the people in these small villages.

These 30 physicians consisted of medical physicians, podiatrists, dermatologists, dentists, ophthalmologists, and chiropractors. These doctors volunteered their time for a 10-day trip to travel 24 hours one way to Addis Ababa, which is the capital city in Ethiopia and another 4 hours by bus to the small village of Debre Berhan, Ethiopia which stands at 9,000 feet elevation.

Over the 10-day period, these physicians treated over 15,000 people from villages more than 5 miles away. People from these far away villages had to walk 5 miles to get this much needed medical attention. These physicians treated many different types of conditions as most of them have never been seen by a physician any time in their life.

Most of these people from the nearby villages worked on farmland and were hard working to support their families.

Dr. Brune says there is nothing like helping people in need and expecting nothing in return. “Just pure giving in order to help another fellow man brings me great joy and pleasure,” he goes on to say with a big lit up smile as he explains his adventure. “The gratitude and hope we are able to give these people is a life-changing experience. Even though I cannot speak their language or they speak mine, it is truly something one feels inside oneself to make a difference in someone’s life.”

Dr. Brune goes on to say that he looks forward to his next trip to Thailand in October of this year and continuing the work to help make the world as better and healthier place. “That is my purpose as a chiropractor and I m lucky I have this chance and opportunity to help others.”
